We think spring might be coming...

Posted on April 18th, 2022 by Ashley Thompson

...but we're not totally sure...

What crazy weather we've been having.  We've never experienced the weather being as cold as it was last week this time of year.  It's thrown some wrenches in our plans-- we've struggled to get water to our field during the first week of irrigation due to very cold nights and a system that is not made for irrigating when things are freezing.  We finally were able to get enough water to be able to sow some seeds late last week, and now are preparing to finally transplant our first crops.  We're now a week behind on transplants, which means things might be a little delayed for early summer harvests, and it also means we have twice as much to transplant this week!

Fortunately, our summer crew starts tomorrow, meaning we'll have about double the labor power- YES!  We're so excited to have more hands, we've felt like we've been falling behind the past couple weeks, but I'm always shocked by how much more we get done once we have more hands.

We've got more lush greens for you this week, including Baby Bok Choy!  We even interplanted cilantro between it this year to get two crops out of one bed, increasing the spring bounty!  We also have the first salad turnips of the season, which we are SO EXCITED ABOUT.  They taste like butter (okay, almost) this time of year.

We hope you enjoy the greens tsunami this week, we sure are!

Your Farmers,

Ashley, Caleb and the Sungrounded Crew
