Summer meets fall

Posted on August 21st, 2021 by Ashley Thompson

On the farm, plants have gotten huge, but we're also making our last big seeding and planting push these weeks to fill out the field for fall.  Now as we're finally getting some cooler temperatures we get to enjoy that special time when we have both summer and fall crops.  To me, it's a good time to get back into the kitchen and cook some comfort food, maybe a soup or two as days get shorter and nights get cooler.

With harvest still taking mountains of time and energy, and so much work still going into preparing beds and planting, we're really feeling ready for a fall break, but with the cooler weather, our whole crew is feeling a bit of a second wave of energy.  That said, no matter how much energy I muster, time still feels extremely short and lists are long so I'm going to keep this one short and sweet!

We've got super special young fingerling potatoes in boxes this week.  They are extra great for roasting whole because they're so long and thin.  I'd recommend leaving them whole rather than slicing them if possible because the skin helps to keep them extra moist and buttery inside.  We've also got truly gorgeous bunched celery in boxes, as well as some fall herbs to add some flavor to your food this week, along with roots for your roasting or souping pleasure.  We've even got some more strawberries for you this week!  Finally, we've got 1# bags of bulk chili peppers available to add-on, in case anyone need a little spice.  These are great to make into hot sauce, spice up a salsa, or dry for winter.  You can even freeze them.  Check out box contents below for more great stand-bys to fill out your box this week.

We hope you've had a great weekend,

Ashley, Caleb and the Sungrounded Crew
