CSA Box #1

Posted on May 20th, 2020 by Ashley Thompson

The long wait is over, the produce is finally here!

What a crazy spring we've been having, the weather has been hot and then cold, dry and then wet.  It's certainly been an adventure getting all the food growing this year.  Some plants (tomatoes, peppers) we've been nurturing since the end of January in order to get their fruits to you as early as possible.  They've lived in our house with grow lights, then in pots and later in the ground in our heated greenhouse.  Now they are 5 1/2 feet tall and loaded with soon to ripen fruit.  Get ready for June Central Oregon tomatoes, they're a special treat!

Other crops aren't so lucky to get a tropical heated space to grow in, but they've been so brave throughout the spring weather swings.  These peas are really showing us their appreciation for our having covered them in a frost blanket tent on all those cold nights in March and April.  We've never had snap peas so tall and they're just in time for the start of CSA season.  We hope you're excited to enjoy all the juicy crunch that spring food has to offer.

We will be hosting a short tour of the farm at 5:30pm on Thursday if you'd like to attend.  This is optional, and you are welcome to just pick up your box at your set location.  If you are signed up for a different pick up location, but would like to come see the farm and attend the tour, you can change the pick up location of just your first share in your profile to Sungrounded Farm.  You're welcome to do this any time if you'd like a little getaway to see your food in action.

Please be courteous of others as you pick up your share, keep your distance and utilize available hand sanitizer before touching other's boxes.  You may take your box home with you, or you may take just the liner (or repack into your own bag).  If you bring your box home, please bring it back the following week and follow posted instructions to carefully break down the box and store for re use.  You may return plastic liners that look clean, or you can reuse these in your house as a trash bag.  We can also take returned clean egg cartons and pulp pint containers, but if they're berry stained, please reuse them at home or compost them.

Thanks for being a part of your local food community, it's going to be a great season.

Your Farmers,

Ashley and Caleb
