Farm Happenings for September 12, 2020

Posted on September 10th, 2020 by Matt Johnson

This past week we have been trying to stay out of the smoke as much as possible.  I’ve farmed in some pretty harsh environments before but the combination of the wildfire smoke and dust from the almond harvest are pretty gross.  I find myself washing black tar out of my nose after a mornings work.  Even NPR has done a few articles on the plight of the California farmworker this season.  However, now that the 100 degree weather has left us for a few days, the dreary sky does help with getting some of our fall transplants in the ground.  Since Tuesday we have planted a few varieties of cabbages, kohlrabi, pac choi, tat soi, lettuce, and brussels sprout with plenty more going in the ground over the next few days.

Food Fix has been doing some pretty amazing stuff with our vegetables over the past couple weeks.  We just finished our second lunch there today as we are attempting to taste our way through the menu.  We highly recommend you stop by and have a taste for yourself and don’t forget to bring home a pint of Sol Sister pickled okra!

Thank you for all those who have been bringing their boxes back or using their own bags.  Now that we’ve started supplying Food Fix our box stash is decreasing even more.
