Farm Happenings for August 15, 2020

Posted on August 13th, 2020 by Matt Johnson

Hey Sol Sisters,

We are happy to report our debut at Contentment went really well so we’ve committed to a CSA pickup/market stand there every Saturday from 5-7pm.  It was such a refreshing change of pace to get off the farm and see all the friendly faces.  At this point on Harvie you should be able to change your pickup location either permanently or weekly on the website if you so choose.

Outside of Contentment, this has been an exciting week for us for a couple different reasons.  First, the peppers and eggplants we seeded in the greenhouse way back on April 1st just had their first harvest!  A few of our friends from Virginia visited and helped us transplant them back in May as well, so a lot of love has gone into the production of these nightshades.  Secondly, our commercial grade dehydrator just arrived and has been running nonstop all week as we preserve our surplus veggies.  So far we’ve done a few batches of tomatoes, green onion, sage, and even cucumbers which were surprisingly delicious.  So we will start adding some of these products to our extra’s list weekly.  Em has been pairing the sun dried tomatoes with Beemster Gouda and Paula has made a really nice tomato jam that we’ve been very liberally spreading across goat cheese.  For now, as we still have plenty of fresh tomatoes etc., I’m going to keep the preserved items in extras and for sale at Contentment.  However, later in the season they will probably start to make an appearance as CSA share options.  All that being said, if anyone has any special requests for any of our produce to run through the dehydrator for your enjoyment just drop us a line.

Thanks again for supporting our small farm,

Matt and Em
