The Tenth Week of the Summer CSA Program

Posted on August 31st, 2019 by Tadd Petersen

It has been another busy week for the team and the farm is thriving in the unpredictable temperatures of late August and early September.  The tomatoes are ripening on the vine, several different varieties of peppers are ready for our CSA members and the team was able to harvest over 1400 pounds of watermelon.  Watermelon may not be an easy variety to harvest but it is one of our favorites during the late summer season.  Besides being a delicious treat to keep you refreshed in the hot months of August and September, it is high in Vitamin C and Vitamin A.  It also keeps you hydrated, is good for the skin and hair and has been shown to improve digestion.  It is sweet and simple to enjoy when cut into slices and eaten raw but there are many other ways to enjoy this fresh ingredient.  Try preparing a watermelon salad topped with goat cheese and mint to take to a summer cookout or maybe a watermelon gazpacho to keep you cool on a hot summer day.  Have another idea for this summer variety? Make sure to share it with us on Facebook and Instagram so we can let the rest of our amazing community know!

Thanks!
