Exciting Updates from the Farm and Father's Day Special!

Posted on June 15th, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

Dear valued CSA members,

I hope this email finds you in good spirits as we approach Father's Day weekend. It's been an eventful week here at the farm, and I'm excited to share the latest updates with you.

As the morning clouds hinted at the possibility of rain, Josh and I took the opportunity to plant a variety of crops, including sweet corn, green beans, peas, zucchini, summer squash, and cucumbers. We were proactive in case the rain arrived after enduring three weeks without it. Just in the nick of time, as we finished transplanting the last of the watermelon, the skies opened up and blessed us with a refreshing sprinkle that turned into a much-needed downpour.

In the past few days, we have been fortunate to receive over 3 inches of rain, a true blessing after the dry spell. The plants are already showing their gratitude, with the broccoli and greens beginning to fill out beautifully, and the zucchini and summer squash showing impressive growth. It's exciting to witness the fruits of our labor flourish with the nourishing rain.

In berry news, we're thrilled to share that our early blueberries are changing colors from green to blue, signifying the start of their ripening season. We have begun picking them, and while these early varieties tend to soften after harvest, they still boast a delightful taste. Please note that they may not store as well as some other varieties, so we encourage you to enjoy them promptly and savor their delicious flavor.

This week, we're excited to highlight sugar snap peas as our featured vegetable. These crunchy and sweet pods are a delightful treat, perfect for snacking, stir-fries, or adding a refreshing touch to salads. Here are a few ideas to inspire you:

  1. Snap Pea Salad: Toss blanched sugar snap peas with cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, and a light vinaigrette for a refreshing summer salad.
  2. Stir-Fried Snap Peas: Quickly sauté sugar snap peas with garlic, ginger, and soy sauce for a delicious side dish or stir-fry addition.
  3. Snap Pea and Radish Slaw: Thinly slice sugar snap peas and radishes, then toss them together with a creamy dressing for a crisp and vibrant slaw.

As Father's Day approaches, we want to help you make this weekend extra special for the dads in your lives. We have an abundant selection of steaks to choose from, allowing you to treat your father to a mouthwatering and memorable meal. Celebrate his love and dedication with a delicious feast straight from our farm to your table.

Wishing you a fantastic Father's Day weekend filled with love, laughter, and delectable farm-fresh meals. Thank you for being part of our CSA family and supporting our farm.

Warmest regards,

The Schultz Family
