Exciting Updates from the Farm and New Veggie Highlights!

Posted on June 9th, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

I hope this email finds you well and ready for some exciting updates from our farm. It has been quite a busy week as we continue our planting efforts to ensure a steady supply of fresh produce. Despite the challenges, we managed to plant our final batch of watermelon today. That's right, 3000 watermelon plants are now in the ground, including red, yellow, and orange varieties. We're eagerly anticipating a successful harvest!

Now that our planting is complete, we are keeping our fingers crossed for some much-needed rain. It has been three weeks without rainfall, and our irrigation system has been working tirelessly to keep our crops watered. We're hopeful that the forecasted rain this weekend will provide some relief and support healthy growth for our plants.

Without further ado, let's dive into the new vegetables we have for you this week. Get ready to enjoy some delicious and nutritious options:

Broccoli: Crisp and vibrant, our broccoli is packed with vitamins and minerals. It's a versatile vegetable that can be steamed, roasted, stir-fried, or added to soups and salads.

Kohlrabi: This unique vegetable has a mild, slightly sweet flavor and a crunchy texture. It can be enjoyed raw in salads or slaws, or cooked in stir-fries and gratins.

Summer Squash: Our summer squash varieties are tender and flavorful. Whether you prefer zucchini, yellow squash, or pattypan, these versatile veggies are perfect for grilling, sautéing, or incorporating into pasta dishes.

Cucumbers: Cool and refreshing, our cucumbers are great for salads, sandwiches, or pickling. They add a crisp texture and a burst of freshness to any dish.

We also have an abundance of peas this week, alongside summer favorites like tomatoes and zucchini. And let's not forget about the crisp lettuce and vibrant greens that will elevate your late spring salads to new heights!

Today, we want to shine the spotlight on snow peas. These tender and sweet pods are a delightful addition to your culinary adventures. Wondering what to do with snow peas? Here are a few ideas to get you inspired:

Stir-fry them with your favorite vegetables and protein for a quick and healthy meal.
Blanch them and toss them into a refreshing salad for a burst of crunch.
Enjoy them raw as a snack or add them to a veggie platter with some dip.
Incorporate them into a stir-fried noodle dish for a satisfying and nutritious stir-fry.
Sauté them lightly with garlic and sesame oil for a simple and flavorful side dish.
Don't forget that our Strawberry U Pick is happening this Saturday from 6pm to 8pm. It's the perfect opportunity to indulge in the sweetness of freshly picked strawberries. Grab your baskets and join us for a fun-filled evening!

Lastly, we will be adding more meat to our inventory over the weekend. I will personally go through our selection to ensure a wide variety of cuts and products are available for you to choose from. Stay tuned for updates on our meat offerings!

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend filled with delicious meals and joyful moments. As always, we appreciate your support and dedication to our farm.

Warm regards,

The Schultz Family
