Tomato Season

Posted on July 20th, 2022 by Lynne Schultz

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well. Good news Josh's back is doing better. However, my hand and arm are not getting much better. Hopefully in the next week or two it might start to heal.

Can you guess what season it is? Tomato season! We are on full out harvest with our tomatoes in the high tunnel and our field ones are just starting. So what do you like doing with tomatoes.? Half the time we just seem to eat them fresh with nothing on them. I like a little salt on mine if they are raw if  I am cooking them I like to add a little sugar . I am going to try the tomato and peanut butter sandwich thing this week. One of you suggested that so I am going to try it. We also are canning all of our seconds into pizza and spaghetti sauce. Also fresh salsa and tomato, mozzarella, and basil salad is also our go tos.

Tomatoes are not the only fruit in season this week. We also have peaches, blackberries, and cantaloupe. Our kids have been eating at least  one cantaloupe a day.

We  are also sending our second batch of chickens to the butcher shop this week. So more chicken will be available in a few weeks. Just like more hog and beef as they went last week to the butcher shop. We are also trying to finsh up some projects here on the farm before our high schoolers head back. Since most play fall sports and practices have started even our daughter's Jr High soccer team has started practice this week. And can you guess who is coaching her, Josh is. I think we just like having a busy life. We also have been busy sending out produce to our local restaurants so if you stop by Ale House or Provisions and eat a tomato on a sandwich then it is coming from our farm. So like I said earlier tomatoes are everywhere right now.

Hope everyone has a great week,

The Schultz Family
