Farm Happenings for May 25, 2021

Posted on May 21st, 2021 by Lynne Schultz

Hello everyone,

We hope everyone has a great week. What can we say about this Ohio weather. Last week we were covering everything with frost blankets and this week we are having to water everything two to three times daily. With warmer weather we have been busy on the farm no just with produce but with other parts of the farm too.

We did bale our first hay this week no much but we did get some done. Rye has been mowed in prep for some of vegetables getting planting into the fields. The rye is used as weed barrier for our melons, winter squash and pumpkins. Ground was worked this week and our soybeans were planted. Hoping to to get our field corn planted this week too. We got a lot of plastic layed in hopes to get our field tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and melons planted over the weekend. We have alot to plant two hay wagons full.

The crops have started to really grow but we sure could use some rain this week. Strawberries are starting to rippen so we will be adding strawberries as extras this coming week. But they will be add to Harvie Saturday evening once we can walk through the field and know how many we will have ready for Tuesday. I will let everyone know when they are add on the Facebook page. We have peas blooming so only a few weeks away from peas on the list. We also got our first red tomato this week a cherry tomato but it was a red tomato. That means they will soon be on the list too.

Yes I know another week of greens this week but that will soon be changing as our first summer crops are almost ready.

Hope you have a great week,

The Schultz Family
