Farm Happenings for November 17, 2020

Posted on November 14th, 2020 by Lynne Schultz

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone enjoy the nice weather last week. We enjoy it and were very busy harvest and getting produce stored for the weather. As some you notice with the rutabaga last week we are trying something new this year. We are trying to harvest out fields and storing somethings that will last in cold storage. As we notice last year we some of root crops would dehydrate and start to get soft. Since the rutabagas are a smaller crop we are trying to store them by dipping thing in food grade wax to see if they last longer. Please let use know what you think about it. We are trying to clean out fields that don't have a lot of crops and store them so we can start to add compost and get the prep for next years growing season. Since that will be starting soon. We have already gotten a few seed catalogs in the mail already and plans are in the works for next year.

We have also been super busy this week taking cows to the butcher shop and picking up meat. On Thursday alone, Josh headed to one butcher shop in one direction to drop off cows and pick up pork. And I head another direction to pick up our chicken. So freezers are stocked and full of meat.

As we get ready for the holidays we will be making pies and bake goods next week and you will be able to purchase them for next week basket.

I hope everyone has a safe week,

The Schultz Family
