A week of Harvest

Posted on November 7th, 2020 by Lynne Schultz

Greetings from the farm,

With the nice weather this week have been busy harvesting our row crops and they are finally all harvested. They are going into storage so that we can use the corn and soybeans for feed for our animals. The complete cycle of our farm. We also have been on the road a lot this week. As we have been taking chickens, pigs, and cows to the butcher shop. But the good news the freezers will be full soon. We continue to clean up the farm and get ready for the winter. Our cows have been enjoying the left over and second pumpkins. It is a sweet treat for them plus it is a great natural wormer for them. The chickens and ducks are also enjoying the leftover pumpkins.

Talking about winter squash and pumpkins. What is your favorite winter squash? Our kids favorite is the acorn filled with butter and brown sugar. I  know it is not the healthiest but the kids love it pus it is a quick prep and and easy side for dinner. Josh's favorite is butternut, cubed up and roasted. My favorite is cushaw because it is great for baking.

The warm weather has also helped with some of our crops so we have a few new item this week. They include parsnips, rutabaga, spinach, snow peas, and a variety of radishes.

Hope everyone has a great a week,

The Schultz Family
