Aloha Old Friends

Dear Farm Members,

It's been a long road of recovery from Hurricane Maria and we are now seeing some of our favorite fruits like Duncan mangoes and several cherry types fruiting strongly again since pre-hurricane days.  It's driven us to focus more on cleaning up our orchards more from tree limb debris and suffocating vines trying to use everything as a trellis.  We are happy to have these sweet incentives for the much needed bush work.

At the same time, we've also opened up vegetable planting areas unused since 2016, and are glad the soil could get some solid rest.  Now we are laying out big crops of cucumbers, corn, and a few other goodies, so we can be ready with more veggies when the fruit season starts to decline soon.  Watching the fruit season go off now is kind of like the pre-finale run of a fireworks show. We are in awe of the colors and the beauty of the fruits saying, "take me, plant my seed."

We also had a great time assisting with the Mutiny Vodka opening this past weekend where we planted a ceremonial breadfruit and yesterday's Breadfruit Roundtable with the delegate high chiefs from Hawaii and Samoa.  Big props to Todd manly and everyone there for a job well done. Please visit Mutiny and try out their food and drinks:)  We are taking up a big role in getting breadfruits planted and have already distributed over 1,200 tree and will be selling more soon to residences and farms so they can get in on the emerging breadfruit markets.

There's just so much cool stuff going on.  Come to our August 24th Slow Down Dinner at the farm if you want to hear and taste more. To sign up just email csa@ridge2reef.org.

 Mahalo,

Nate & the Farm Crew
