Farm Happenings for September 22, 2022

Posted on September 19th, 2022 by Emily Hendrikx

It is starting to cool down and we even had a slight frost last Thursday.  We cleaned the last of the onions last week, and this week hopefully we can finish cleaning and sorting the garlic for planting or eating.    The parsnips and rutabega are on the way, and hopefully we will have one last broccoli crop before the season ends.  There are also a lot of different types of radish that we grow in the fall.

Some cool radish facts.

Radishes are rich in antioxidants and minerals like calcium and potassium. Together, these nutrients help lower high blood pressure and reduce your risks for heart disease. The radish is also a good source of natural nitrates that improve blood flow.

Some of different varieties we are growing include Mini Purple Daikon, Daikon, White Icicle, Rover, Watermelon, and Ostergruss Rosa.

Lots of radish fun for the next few weeks.  Feeling extra fancy?  Came across tutorials of people carving radishes into roses, pretty beautiful if you have the patience.
