Farm Happenings for September 16, 2021

Posted on September 13th, 2021 by Emily Hendrikx

The produce is starting to get heavy now as fall approaches, with the squash, potatoes, roots, and fruits, please bring a sturdy bag for pick ups.  Some of the heaviest veggies are the squash, and we grew some old favourties, as well as some new varieties.  Uchiki kuri, spaghetti, butternut, delicata, sweet dumpling, acorn, kabocha, mashed potato as well as a number of strange and wonderful varieties that are part of the 'Wild Bunch' blend.  This week I am suggesting my favourite winter squash, the Uchiki kuri.  A deep orange with fine flesh and smooth skin, it is easily peeled or roasted.  Try it on it's own, in soup, curry, salads, etc.  But if this Japanese hubbard type is not your style, I will have other squash available for swapping.
