Rain Rain can go away for a few days... August 6th Farm Happenings.

Posted on August 4th, 2020 by Liz Gorzo

Hello Everyone,

We sure have had some great rain days... close to 5 inches in the marsh over the last few days.

On the farm this week we are seeing lots of our tomatoes ripening, many also splitting because of so much water. Tomatoes do better with less watering.  Peppers on the other hand need more water regularly, we water them daily.  The onions we transplanted a few weeks ago have established good roots and are growing nicely.

Around the marsh some of our farmers are starting to machine harvest sweet and heirloom carrots. Beets and summer cabbage are coming soon as well.

Those interested in canning will like that the sauce tomatoes are being harvested, the romas and san marszanos look beautiful. You can email us if you wish to order some larger quantities if that interests you. We have basil and garlic as well if needed. Also, from Norfolk county we have the field beefsteak tomatoes, I have added them to the share this week.

New additions to our Ontario Eats selections are exciting... from Buff we have bison salami and meat sticks. These have no added nitrates, taste great and would make a good addition to your homemade pizza's. From Nonna's Lunchbox we have a frozen lasagna you can add to your share. Also for those that crave some salty snacks, we have added Spuds - Ontario potato chips; and Barrie's Nacho Asparagus Chips.

Wishing you happy full bellies with our the selections this week.

Enjoy!

Liz
