Farm Happenings for April 2, 2024

Posted on March 28th, 2024 by Lisa Duff

Hello Farmily!

Firstly, I am reposting some of the housekeeping information below for those who may have missed it last week.

Secondly, check out some of the delicious pastured Berkshire pork products we offer from Ferguson Family Farm. This pork is a completely different product from what you buy in the grocery store. Lynne is an excellent farmer who stewards her land and her animals with the utmost respect for their health and yours.

Around the farm, we've been busy preparing beds for spring planting, starting seeds indoors, sowing seeds directly outside, and even transplanting some lettuce and cabbage. The rain stopped us from prepping beds but we welcomed it for sure.

We've direct seeded arugula, spinach, mizuna, tatsoi, kale, cilantro, turnips and radishes outside.

We're potting up the high-tunnel tomatoes and hoping to transplant them into our heated tunnel in another week.

The fava beans and early snap peas have popped up and the first of the baby onion transplants are in the ground.

Things are progressing.

It will be 2-3 more weeks before we're harvesting baby greens from outside so for now it's spinach and lettuce. But we know you love your salads!

Let me know if you have questions or comments about the spring share. Hope to see you soon.

Let's go over a few housekeeping points so this season goes smoothly for all of us.

On -farm pick up on Tuesdays: remember to bring your own bag. You will pick up your individualized label and pack your own share. You can buy extras like cheese, eggs, butter, produce, and meat.

Delivery locations only get 2 insulated cooler bags per season to make pick up convenient & classy.

Please return your cooler bag each week with the label intact

Return all bags to the same area you picked it up.

IF you have bags from last year please send them along, we will make good use of them!

Please know: It is your responsibility to pick up your share within the time given.

I chose the Harvie platform for it's high customer convenience and flexibility.

Please use the Harvie platform for all changes, there's a learning curve but you have the power to make ALL your own changes.

Changes must be made by customization cut-off time in your email.

You can change your pick-up location or reschedule your delivery for another day - but you have to make those changes by Sunday at 3 pm before Tuesday delivery.

Please understand once the share leaves the farm on the morning of delivery it is out of our hands.

With respect for everyone involved please do not call, email or text Lisa the day of delivery with last minute changes. Changes must be made 2 days before delivery during the customization period.

Make sure your phone number is up to date and accurate so the drop location can contact you with any last-minute info.

Call your drop location only in an emergency where you can't pick up your bag.

For on-farm pick up if you don't pick up your share we will bag it for you and put it in the cooler until the end of the next day. No need to call or email, just come by and pick up your share.

Bags left beyond pick-up time at drop spots are donated to site employees or a local food pantry.

Cheers Everyone!

Yours in farming,

Lisa
