Farm Happenings for the first week of August

Posted on July 29th, 2022 by Lisa Duff

Yes, it's tomato season!

And, yes, there is a little bit of corn this week. Angelo is holding a crate from today's harvest for market. It's hard to tell when it will be ready....We don't specialize in corn, it's more for fun, so on-farm pick up folks might see it at Tuesday farm store.  And we are bringing some to the Hereford Farmer's Market tomorrow so if you REALLY want some-come see us there from 9-noon!

Now let's talk tomatoes. Available tomatoes will increase this week. Hooray! WE have a beautiful bounty of farm fresh tomatoes coming in. Make a tomato sandwich for lunch next week. Let me know what your favorite bread is for your sandwich. Mine is sourdough!

Check out our blog this week to get descriptions & pictures of our favorite tomatoes

Storage tip of the week:

We like to pick our tomatoes RIPE. So this means they want to be eaten soon after you get them. We are trying to pick some a bit underripe to give you more time. You can tell if it's ripe by feel. When your finger indents the tomato, it's ready to eat. You can keep your ripe maters in the fridge to prolong their life. IF they need to ripen, leave them on the counter. Keep an eye out for pest damage, unfortunately, being organic and not spraying our tomatoes the pests get to them before we do sometimes.

Enjoy tomato season!
