Farm Happenings for week of July 26

Posted on July 22nd, 2022 by Lisa Duff

Is summer flying by or what?

Speaking of flying, here's Hunter, an OSF intern, who at 18 has his pilot's license!

He's holding a big bin of Shishito peppers.

Hunter has been with us since mid May when he came home from college for the summer. He secured his position in early Spring, I'm not usually convinced to take on young farmers for just 3 months (it usually takes that long for us to train them) but after stellar reccommendations I decided to give it a go. What a win!

Hunter finishes up with us August 6th. To say he's been a quick learner is an understatement. He has been a huge asset to the farm this summer. It has been an absolute pleasure to have him, his work ethic and positive, can-do attitude. And I know I speak for the whole crew.

If you haven't met Hunter come by the Hereford Farmer's Market, he'll be working the next 3 markets. Wish him well as he heads back to Indiana for his sophomore year studying business in agriculture.

This week we are harvesting a glorious bounty of farm fresh summer veggies. Our Orient Charm (light purple) and Orient Express (dark purple) Japanese eggplant, Galine, big, purple/black Italian eggplants, a variety of heirloom tomatoes, Sungold cherry tomatoes-an OSF favorite-, and all manner of sweet & hot peppers take the stage this week.

We want you all to try Shishito peppers soon. Check out 2 great ways to prepare them in our blog this week.  (as a reminder we have lots of great recipes and ideas for how to use our products in our blog and recipe page at www.oakspring-farm.com if you haven't been lately check us out!

My favorite way to make them is BLISTERED in a hot cast iron pan with a fresh crack of salt & pepper. YUM! and a super healthy appetizer or snack.

Bon Appetit and let me know what you think of the shishitos!
