Happy Summer! Farm Happenings for week of June 24

Posted on June 22nd, 2022 by Lisa Duff

Happy Summer, officially.

Summer Solstice was June 21st, the longest day of the year. I was up early for the sunrise and did a few sun salutations with my friend, Karen Dubs, the flexible warrior. We are finishing up our solstice 'cleanse' where I drank a large amount of fresh juice for 3 days leading up to Solstice...

Honestly, I prefer salad to juice!

My favorite salad this time of year might be a mix of lettuce & spicy mix with some herbs, blue goat cheese, toasted pecans, fresh berries, cucumber and some roasted chicken...oh my. Am I hungry?

Salad season has been upon us and now we can shift the lettuce salads to cucumber salads, tomato salads, salads with fava beans, snap peas and soon fresh peppers and green beans!

The bounty is coming on strong....

I love this time of year.

The weather has been quite perfect, hasn't it?

I'm sending your customization early because I'm taking Izzi to the beach. We are celebrating our birthdays at the beach with our dear friends Laura and Carys! Izzi turned 13 last week and well, ah, I turn 35 next week! HA! Why not?  I've decided to grow younger from now on...and that's another story!

So make sure you get on the Farm-ily Facebook page and check in by posting some of your own tips and tricks for making the most of this week's bountiful CSA share.

Also pencil in the farm's week off!

Make a note on your calendar today.

NO CSA The week of JULY 11-17th.

Remember if you have a vacation coming up plan ahead and reschedule your share now. Double up the week before or the week after your vacation.

Storage tip of the week:  keep it all in a paper or plastic bag. Fava beans have a fairly long shelf life so don't worry if you don't use them up right away. But eat your snap peas right up! Fresher the better! Give them a cold water soak if they get a little soft or sauté them!
