Welcome to the Oak Spring Whole season share

Posted on April 27th, 2021 by Lisa Duff

This week is your FIRST share of the whole season! Some of you are continuing from Spring share, many of you are returning from last year and some of you are brand new.  Welcome All!

We are excited to offer crisp, sweet carrots, delicious salad mix including lettuce, tatsoi and young kale for extra flavor! We are also harvesting cilantro and parsley, red beets, spring onions, first cutting of a fresh bed of arugula, and spicy salad mix with mustard greens, spinach and bright hakurei turnips and bunches of young Red Russian kale and chard. The hens have been working hard through this last bit of cold weather and we have plenty of colorful, nutritious eggs too!

We are once again featuring A Friendly Bread's gorgeous, aromatic and naturally leavened loaves alongside our veggies. This week, bread share is a large Simple Country Sourdough loaf, but we are pleased to offer additional Multiseed Loaves and  other fun varieties weekly so be sure to try something new. Check our the extras page regularly-keep an eye out for strawberries they're coming in toward the end of May.

New this year, Oak Spring Farm is offering logo'd baseball caps and cozy logo'd sweatshirts, and a fresh supply of car magnets, so you can display your favorite local farm on a daily basis.

Check out our donation-based share this year which allows any member to contribute a one-time payment (multiple options available) to enable community members who would otherwise be unable to purchase a share, to partake in the nutritious food we offer. So far we have raised enough money to help supplement 5 families get a CSA share they otherwise couldn't afford. Thank you!

Don't forget to join the Oak Spring FARMily Facebook page - a members-only group which enables us to share recipes, storage tips and fun information about the farm life. We hope to have some meaningful and informative conversations going this year as we strive to help everyone get the most out of their shares. Check it out to find this week's awesome first recipes and lots of information pertaining to your farm share.

We have lots of great transplants and we will be at John Brown Butchery tomorrow selling our Certified Organic transplants-tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, lettuces, broccoli, kale, and more! Come by and check out what we've got from 10am-3pm. Nic and Andi, our interns this year, will be there!

Please plan to come out to the farm on Sunday May 16th for our Spring Festival! Some of our vendors will be here like Daily Crisis Dairy, Floriculture micro farm, and Plants are Good with herbal tinctures. We'll have produce and Oak Spring Farm merchandise for sale, live music from 2 different performers, farm tour is at 2pm, growing great tomato tips from Lisa and crew at 3pm, food from Oak Spring and Laura K. like farm focaccia, fresh salads, hummus wraps and so much more. Bring a chair and your favorite beverage and come hang out for the afternoon 1-5pm

STORAGE TIP-OF-THE-WEEK - Separate the greens from the roots when storing carrots, beets, radishes, turnips, etc., to maximize shelf life. Keep both in plastic bags or damp paper towels.

PREP TIP - no need to peel these carrots. A light scrub with a vegetable brush is all that's needed.
