Farm Happenings for April 27, 2021

Posted on April 23rd, 2021 by Lisa Duff

Welcome to the final week of Spring share! We have had a great month of greens and roots and will finish out with a few new items! The spicy salad mix is a fresh first field cut of baby mustard greens, with some baby red Russian kale and tatsoi mixed in (pictured above). An Oak Spring Favorite! There is first cut field arugula this week as well and young hakurei turnips.

Please everyone with home delivery or pick up at JBGB return your bags promptly with the label ON. Thanks SO much!!

Bread share this week is large Whole Wheat. There are some great varieties for sale as extras too!

Tomorrow is our first plant sale of the season. Please come by from 12-4pm! We will have live music by Jason & Emily, baby goats, door prizes for CSA members (like ball caps and car magnets) and lots of plants. Come on out with a picnic & chairs, enjoy the music & the day. This week our Nigerian Dwarf mama, Tickle, gave birth to 4 kids. That's a lot of kids (triplets is a lot) but so far she is feeding them all herself and they are happy and healthy. The 2 white ones are girls, two brown ones are boys. Quite a size discrepancy between the four!

Some of you will continue on into the Whole season next week and some of you we will see in June for Summer shares. If you have any questions about your share please check out Harvie.farm and go to My Profile-Order. This will show you what you've ordered for the season. There are still flower, bread and cheese  shares available for Whole and Summer shares.

Storage tip of the week:

Pop your green onions in a cup of water (dunk the roots only) for longer, fresher storage. There are other ways to care for them but this one seems popular and they will be right at your finger tips.

We trim your carrot tops for you. Remember to store your carrots in a plastic bag or clean them with a veggie brush, trim the tops and put them in a glass storage container. They're ready to go whenever you need them!

Quick recipe:

Do you make your own salad dressing?  We do!  It's so easy and so fresh. I use equal parts good quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar, a pinch of salt, a drizzle of honey and 'Ta-Da' homemade dressing #1.  Look out for the video about it on FB Farm-ily!

Hope to see you & yours this weekend!
