Farm Happenings for October 6, 2020

Posted on October 2nd, 2020 by Lisa Duff

Happy  October!

We are so excited to see our yellow wax beans coming in! Rocdor and Velour (the purple filet beans) are coming in strong for our last bean crop of the season. Keep an eye out for these crisp, slender beauties.

Our ginger harvest isn't as big as we hoped but many of you will see ginger this week. Let us know what you think and perhaps we will adjust our crop size for 2021. We start ginger in late February by sprouting pieces of root in shallow bins of potting mix. Ginger likes it warm and can take several weeks to sprout. Once sprouted it's planted in the high tunnel and hoed like potatoes, keeping the roots covered and well watered. Fresh ginger is tender & crisp (you can use the whole plant) with a very fresh taste compared to cured roots you buy in the store. Enjoy!

Please remember to RSVP for the farm tour October 17th 3pm. We would love to see you and share the farm with you. We will have live music and if you'd like to bring your own picnic and enjoy the live music away from everyone that is totally ok. We understand that it's a difficult time for a social gathering but we plan to be safe and respectful with 6 feet distancing and masks on the farm tour.

Remember we are making some changes to our 2021 CSA and the updates will be out by the end of the month. Nothing major just a bit of a restructuring.

If you follow us on FB or IG please pop on there and respond to the latest post where we ask you what you want to hear or see from us here at Oak Spring. We want to give you information and pictures that are meaningful to you. Let us know what you want!

As always, thank you.

Stay well, be positive and peaceful,
