Farm Happenings for August 27, 2019

Posted on August 23rd, 2019 by Lisa Duff

It rained today!  As farmers we live and die by the weather. As a farmer I work hard not to complain too much about the weather...good weather comes good weather goes. BUT the last 6 weeks have stressed us out here at Oak Spring. It seemed to have rained all around us. We transplanted and seeded for hours in the glorious rain today. I was cold and nearly shivering for the first time in a long time outdoors. It felt so good.

We planted not one but 2 new beds of lettuce today and 2 new beds of spinach. The last 4 have been ravaged by heat, lack of rain and pests. But things are looking up. We are working on a new water catchment system to help combat future dry spells and lessen the impact on our aquifer.

There is more spaghetti squash this week and LEEKS!  They are lovely and ready to go. Check out the extras this week, we will offer cinnamon rolls and sourdough bread from The Harvest - 2 of our favorites here.

Remember to return your bags if you're at a drop spot and to contact your drop spot ASAP if you're late or will miss your pick up once your bag has been made and left Oak Spring. We want you to get all your produce, every time.

Thank you for your support, enjoy the cooler temps as will we.
