Farm Happenings for July 30, 2019

Posted on July 26th, 2019 by Lisa Duff

What a beautiful and productive week. Thank goodness we've gotten a reprieve from the super hot weather; we're grateful for cooler days and nights. The summer crops are in full swing-hope you enjoyed your corn; it comes in all at once and then it's gone. We have a second planting but it doesn't look as promising as the first crop.

We have a full crew working hard to clean up and turn over the beds getting lots of crops in for the fall. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and potatoes will be the stars of the show for August. A new crop of bok choi is maturing...and all the onions are harvested now- we have big sweet Candy onions and small, red Cabernet onions cured and ready and a barn full of drying German red and white varieties of hard neck garlic.

On a personal note I had to drive to Myrtle Beach, SC this week to pick up my eldest and youngest  (Sammi 16, Izzi 10). They were visiting family for 2 weeks. Henry (13) and I drove to fetch them. We spent 2 nights and enjoyed the beach and a bit of relaxation - I could relax because I felt confident and secure that the OSF crew had everything under control.  What a great feeling to have in the middle of the season!

We are working on an impromptu summer OSF farm tour/pot luck dinner if you are interested give us your preferences as to a Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening. (2nd, 3rd or 4th week of August or Sept)  We want as many of you as possible to come out to meet the farm, the crew and enjoy a relaxing, country evening. Let us know!

As always thank you everyone for your support. Please remember to share your pictures, recipes or just an OSF anecdote on our Facebook or Instagram page. We love to hear from you!
