Farm Share 2023 Week 18 - A bountiful harvest for Thanksgiving weekend

Posted on October 2nd, 2023 by Kim Barker

Welcome to Week 18 of the Farm Share!

We have LOTS available this week for you to create a beautiful Thanksgiving share for yourselves. Definitely check out the customization options for this week!

Only 2 weeks left of our regular summer share after this. We have just 5 spots left in our Fall Share which runs for 6 weeks from November - December.

On The Farm

A big thank you to all who came out to our Farm Share Potluck! It was a great success and after many years of hoping to host an event like this, it felt so good to accomplish it. We couldn't have asked for a better day, and all the food everyone brought was a real treat. I think my favourite part was seeing all the kids having fun and enjoying the farm. Snails were rescued and given a habitat, grasshoppers were spotted, scavenger hunts were completed to satisfaction. All in all, it was a great boost of mood and energy to share the farm with others. Thanks again! We plan on making this an annual event, so if you didn't make it out, maybe we'll see you next year!

Veggie Highlights

BEANS are back this week! And new to the list are leeks and young fennel. It always makes me happy when the leeks are ready. They always seem to be on the bottom of the list of things to plant when we are busy in July. By the time we plant them, sometimes they are looking a bit sad. Then they sit there for a long time out in the field. So when it's finally time to harvest these thick stems, it feel satisfying.

We also have Thanksgiving herb bundles, which are a mix of sage, thyme, parsley and oregano. Add them to your stuffing!

Wishing you all a happy Thanksgiving, with good food shared with loved ones.

Your farmer,

Kim
