Farm Share 2023 Week 15: Where summer and fall come together

Posted on September 11th, 2023 by Kim Barker

Welcome to Week 15 of the Farm Share!

Just under 3 weeks left til our Farm Share Harvest Celebration Potluck on October 1st from 11am-3pm!

It's time to customize your share! You have til Tuesday at midnight to do so. Don't forget to return your green bag!

On The Farm

This is a special time of year where fall is slowly flowing into the world, yet summer lingers. You could just as easily make a fresh BLT as you could a warm and comforting stew. The cicadas buzz alongside the harsh calls of the bluejays. I love these in-between times, when you can see change happening, and enjoy elements from both seasons at the same time.

This week we will take down our tomatoes, and begin to prepare the soil for our greenhouse plantings of spinach, bok choy, spring onions, salad mix.

Reminder: Mark Your Calendars for our Harvest Celebration Potluck on October 1st

Since we started our farm we have been dreaming about having an event to bring our Farm Share members together to celebrate the season. Now, finally, we are going to make it happen! Please consider joining us on October 1st to share some food, tour the farm, enjoy some farm activities and celebrate our 5th growing season with us.

Bring an appetizer, or a main, or a salad, or a dessert, or a side, or a drink; share what you like to eat - whatever you bring will be welcomed and enjoyed. We’ll have some cards available so you can note any ingredients/allergens folks should be aware of.

Hope to see you there!

Veggie Highlights

*NEW* this week:

We are harvesting our own carrots this week! We also have bok choy back! From Common Ground Farm, we have potatoes and for the canners out there, half bushels of roma tomatoes available for extra purchase.

Give this baby bok choy chow mein a try this week:

We made this on the weekend:

Pesto, goats cheese, and roasted peppers on toast from the Whole Grain Hearth. Sooooo good.

Hope you enjoy your veggies this week!

Thanks for keeping us growing.

Your farmer,

Kim
