First Harvest of 2023!

Posted on April 17th, 2023 by Kim Barker

We are very excited to have our first official harvest of the season!

These crops were planted in February in our unheated hoophouse, and we have been waiting for them patiently ever since!

We have four spring treats available this week: spinach, aurugula, radish, and spring garlic.

Now, this is just a taste of the many varied and abundant harvests we'll have moving forward in the season. It's like... an appetizer before the meal.

Wait... spring garlic?

If you're new to Mulberry Moon Farm, you might not know about this one yet.

This is something Alex grew up with in Moldova. His grandparents planted garlic, and they would always harvest some of it in the spring for fresh eating and cooking. It looks like a spring onion, but it’s garlic! It tastes like garlic, but milder. You can chop it up and sauté the bulbs just like you would regular garlic; then toss the greens in a little later in your dish. I just used it in spaghetti the other day! Here’s a bit more info from thespruceeats.com

Look at how he peers so lovingly at his green garlic…

We hope you enjoy these spring veggie treats as much as we do! Nothing like fresh greens after a long winter.

Your farmer,

Kim
