Veggie Share - Week 13

Posted on September 2nd, 2019 by Kim Barker

Happy September, everyone!

This time of year, we are hovering between summer and fall. The garden is doing the same. Zucchinis, cucumbers, and tomatoes are slowing down while our fall crops continue to grow bigger.

Here are some happily weeded fall carrots, potatoes, and cabbage... really, really satisfying job to get done.

Before the rains come in October, now is Alex's chance to get out in the field to prep for next year. Over the next month, he'll be working on building new raised beds, leveling out some areas of the field that get rain-logged, and prepping our current raised beds by flail-mowing the crops and weeds and re-shaping them.

Last week, we made a really yummy beet and apple risotto! It was quite pretty and a nice way to use beets. We also made an amazing and simple tomato sauce with onions, garlic, tomatoes, and basil. This is the time of year to soak up these summer flavours.

Wishing everyone an enjoyable Labour Day Monday!
