Farm Happenings for Week of August 30th

Posted on August 30th, 2021 by Kelly Morris

PICK UP HOURS: Pickup hours are Thursday 3pm-7pm, Friday 11am-7pm and Saturday 9am-1pm. Despite what day you chose when signing up for your share, you are welcome to come during any of our open hours. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before closing to give yourself time to gather your veggies. Our FALL HOURS begin on October 7th. Fall Hours will be Thursday 3pm-6pm, Friday 11am-6pm and Saturday 9am-1pm.

FARM UPDATE: We've been working on getting pumpkins out of the field and its getting us in the mood for fall! We're also excited about the cooler weather. This week's forecasted weather, however, has us feeling a bit nervous. Our reseeded radishes, lettuce, arugula and beets are looking great and we are hoping for a slow, steady soaking instead of torrential rains so the beds aren't washed away again.

The first pawpaws are ready this week! Pawpaws are a tropical-like native fruit that has a flavor similar to a mango or banana and a custardy texture. They can be eaten raw right out of the skin or used as a substitute for banana in any recipe. Since they are just beginning and numbers are limited this week, I'm going to keep them as a swap in item, but when we have larger numbers, they'll be going right into shares. If you haven't done so, check your preferences if you do or do not want to receive pawpaws. They are a seasonal specialty item, but they are not for everyone!

Thank you for your support!

Katie, Elizabeth, Brad, Christina, Kelly, Matt and Nate
