Farm Happenings for Week of August 16th

Posted on August 17th, 2021 by Kelly Morris

PICK UP HOURS: Pickup hours this week and every week are Thursday 3pm-7pm, Friday 11am-7pm and Saturday 9am-1pm. Despite what day you chose when signing up for your share, you are welcome to come during any of our open hours. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before closing to give yourself time to gather your veggies. If you aren't able to make it during our normal pickup hours, please email Katie at farmer@homefields.org and she can arrange for you to pick up on Monday.

FARM UPDATE: An overcast start to the week is welcome relief after last week's heat wave. We're feeling the seasons shift here at Homefields as we focus on cleaning up plastic from spring crops and transplanting the fall crops into the fields.

Sweet corn is going out in shares this week. Our first succession got lost in the weeds, but this 2nd succession is looking much better and we'll have a good harvest off of it. Organically grown sweet corn is notorious for hiding a few bugs here and there. If you find a buggy spot in your corn, just cut that section off and enjoy the rest! In our opinion, sharing the harvest with a bug or two beats spraying and ingesting pesticides any day!

Thank you for your support!
