Welcome to the Winter CSA!

Posted on November 12th, 2020 by Kelly Morris

If you didn't receive an email from me on Friday with details about the Winter CSA, please let me know! Due to the smaller size of the Winter CSA there will be less swapability than there was this summer and fall. However, since the weather has been warmer than normal this fall, there are still small quantities of some crops out in the fields. I've included these as available items that you can swap into your share if you'd like.

This week's pickup time is Saturday, November 21st from 9am-1pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before we close to allow yourself time to gather your veggies. If you need an alternate pickup time this week or any week, please email me at farmer@homefields.org. I will be more than happy to accommodate your needs!

FARM UPDATE: This is the last week out in the fields for our seasonal farmhands. The team has worked hard all season long to bring you fresh, healthy and delicious produce. This week we're finishing some field cleanup and planting next year's garlic crop. The garlic cloves will sprout this fall, then grow slowly until the weather warms in spring when they will take off. Pictured above are Ben and Claudia from the Friendship Community helping out!

This week's share includes a winter green called Yokatta-Na that you probably aren't familiar with. Its kind of a cross between chard and bok choy and can be used to replace either in recipes. Here's a tasty sounding one for a crustless quiche.

Yokatta-Na Crustless Quiche

1/2 yokatta-na
1/2 sliced sweet onion
2 cup shredded cheese of choice (swiss, cheddar, monterey jack)
4 eggs
1 cup milk
salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Chop yokatta-na stems into bite size pieces and separate from chopped leaves. Heat skillet on medium high with olive oil, cook onion and yokatta-na stems until tender but not overcooked. Add in leaves last minute. In a mixing bowl whisk eggs, add in milk and cheese and fold in sautéed onions and yokatta-na, add salt and pepper. Coat a pie dish with vegetable oil and pour in egg mixture. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown and no liquid is seeping out. Enjoy!

EXTRAS TO ADD TO YOUR SHARE: If you didn't order any add-ons (and even if you did), we will have mushrooms and bread to purchase as Extras each week of the Winter CSA.

Thank you for your continued support of our farm!
