Farm happenings for Week of September 21st

Posted on September 18th, 2020 by Kelly Morris

OUR HOURS: Thursday, 3pm-7pm, Friday 11am-7pm, Saturday 9am-1pm. Like always, feel free to come during any of our open hours. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before we close to allow yourself time to gather your veggies. PLEASE NOTE! Next week we will be changing to our Fall Hours: Thursday 3pm-6pm, Friday 11am-6pm and Saturday 9am-1pm.

WINTER CSA: There are only 24 spots left for the Winter CSA! Did you know we are also offering bread, eggs and mushrooms to purchase along with our winter veggies? Signups for the Winter CSA close on Sept 30th so don't delay! Learn more and signup at www.homefields.org/farm

FARM UPDATE: Fall is definitely in the air at Homefields. We are excited by the growth we're seeing on our fall crops and at how much fall cleanup we've gotten completed! We have more fields in cover crop already this year than we had by the end of October last year! This week we are getting the last of our fall crops in the ground: radishes and spinach as well as kale and bok choy for the Winter Share. We're also continuing with field cleanup from the winter squash crops. We're borrowing a large disc plow from a neighbor farmer to work the soil in some new(ish) land so that we can get a cover crop in to help improve the soil for next year's crops. The Dilley brothers along with help from Tom and Bruce have gotten the poles in and are working on getting the hoops up for our 3rd greenhouse!

ADD ONS AND EXTRAS: If you have a fruit share, you know how delicious North Star's fruit is. If you don't have a fruit share, you're in luck! Their online store for ordering bulk fruit is now open. Order on Tuesday or Wednesday for pickup at Homefields along with your veggie share. The store will be open every week for the remainder of the season. You'll need to create an account the first time you place an order, but your info will be saved after that. Place your order here

UPCOMING TALKS IN THE FIELDS: Saturday, Sept 26 2-4:30pm - Native Garden Design & Build with Elyse Jurgen. This workshop will take place outdoors and social distancing will take place. The first part of the workshop will explore the fundamentals of ecological site prep and plant placement, based on the plant species’ sociabilities (growing pattern and organization) to create a native garden design on the Homefields farm property. The remaining time will be a hands-on installation of the group’s crafted native garden design. More information and tickets can be found here.

Thank you from your farmers,
Katie, Elizabeth, Brad, Brian, Christina, Kelly, Angie and Matt
