Farm happenings for Week of July 6th

Posted on July 6th, 2020 by Kelly Morris

COOL AS A CUCUMBER!

While we aren't feeling as cool as a cucumber this week, we are feeling the cuke love. We harvested more of these refreshing veggies than we guessed so everyone can take 2 extra cucumbers this week. Matt and Kelly both made cucumber salad this week, his was yogurt based and hers was honey mustard based and both looked delicious!

MASK REQUIREMENTS:

Thank you to everyone who has been intentionally following our safety practices. We have had a few incidents of people were not wearing masks in the distribution area. If you can't or do not wish to wear a mask, that is your prerogative, however we are requiring it in the distribution area and Susan has the right to refuse service to anyone not wearing one. You can select the Box My Share option during the customization period each week to have your veggies boxed and Susan will be happy to bring them out to your vehicle. Masks are NOT required in the pick your own field. Please share our Food and Hygiene Safety Practices with anyone who will be coming to pick up a share for you.

PICK YOUR OWN:

The cherry tomatoes are just beginning to fruit! We haven't put the sign up yet since ripe ones are few and far between, but if you see a red or yellow one, feel free to pick it! What can I say about the blueberries? All our efforts to deter the birds have failed and there won't be blueberries in shares this year. We have plans to get that bird netting installed this fall so that next spring it will be ready to go. We are sorry.

UPCOMING TALKS IN THE FIELDS:

August 8th 1:30-2:30pm - Pepper Power with Dominique Didier. Dominique Didier will introduce guests to the many varieties of peppers grown at Homefields, and will share recipes, tips, and tricks for preserving and pickling peppers, both hot and sweet. Samples will be provided. More information and tickets are available here.

Thank you,

Your farmers,
Katie, Elizabeth, Brad, Brian, Christina, Kelly and Matt
