Farm Happenings for September 10, 2022

Posted on September 10th, 2022 by Zach Hawkins

The turkeys have arrived! Jeff drove up to Michigan on Tuesday and picked up one-hundred hens and sixty toms that are already almost ten weeks old. We like a mix because the hens are smaller and the toms are larger. Some of the turkeys will be processed early and frozen for those who like smaller birds, but most of the turkeys will be available fresh for Thanksgiving. The birds are settling in to their new home on the pasture nicely--they are great foragers and it's a lot of fun to watch them explore.

We sell turkeys a little differently than the rest of our products. Turkey orders may be placed through our website only and they must be picked up on the farm. That's right, no delivery for these birds--you’ll have to come to the farm! We offer two different dates for pickup: Thursday, November 17 and Sunday, November 20.

For those who might be new to cooking a fresh, pasture-raised turkey, have no fear! We'll provide instructions that are easy to follow. And if you think you might not need a WHOLE bird, Jeff recommends ordering a half turkey. They weigh in around ten to twelve pounds and he says they’re perfect for a smaller meal.

We give thanks that our fresh, pasture-raised turkeys have become a tradition for many at Thanksgiving. Since they are so popular, we recommend reserving yours as soon as possible. Click here to order!
