Farm Happenings for May 14, 2022

Posted on May 14th, 2022 by Zach Hawkins

The sun has been shining on the farm all week--a welcome change from the cold, wet weather that seemed like it would never end. During this busy planting season it's easy to get wrapped up in the to-do list and not take time to appreciate the thousands of plants going into the ground right now. Take a quick walk around the farm and you'll encounter lettuce, spinach, arugula, peas, carrots, radishes, salad turnips, beets, scallions, shallots, onions, potatoes, kale, chard, cabbage, kohlrabi, bok choy, cilantro, and basil basking in the sun. It's starting to look like a garden around these parts! It's particularly satisfying to watch the sugar snap peas climb a new trellis system we designed and had fabricated this spring (isn't it great when an idea actually works out?).

We're excited about so many things at this time of year. Our main season CSA will be starting up in a few weeks and Fridays on the Farm Pizza Nights return June 10th. Not to mention the bounty of produce we're about to enjoy! This year we'll be partnering with more farms and artisans than ever to bring you the best food our region has to offer. We look forward to introducing you to the humans who are working hard to produce your food, along with the team here at Hawkins Farm. This year you can expect a weekly Farm Happenings update that will highlight what we're up to here at the farm, everything from news about what we're growing and educational resources that are important to us to general history about our CSA and farm.

Thanks for being a part of our local food community! We hope you are as excited as we are for what’s to come. If you haven’t signed up for your 2022 Main Season Farm Share, you can do so by clicking this link: https://www.harvie.farm/farm/hawkins-family-farm/signup
