Farm Happenings for May 4, 2021

Posted on April 30th, 2021 by Judy Lessler

Hello everybody.

This week we will be providing you in our deliveries: Arugula. Beets, Lacinato kale, Lettuces, Carrots, Collars, Escarole, and finally we have Green Garlic and you can get it by selecting your vegetables.

It is surprising how the time flies and the temperatures are increasing every week, we are already in May and the planting calendar announces that it is time to put the transplants of: Melons, Eggplant, Tomatillos, Peppers in the fields .

The Tomatoes plants are ready to put in the fields, but we want to wait until may 10 to  put them in the fields and thus not pass the problem of the last year that on may 9 the temperatures were freezing and many plants died luckily we managed to cover ours and saved them.

This week we put a small shelter in one of our pickup locations.  For the sides, we decided to use some Evertfresh plastic that we had had for 10 years. Judy and Victor zoomed off in the truck to install the shelter at the site. Alas, the plastic was so old that,  by the time they got to the site, the shelter had started to fall apart.  They put it back in the truck, zoomed back to the farm, and, luckily we had newer plastic, so we were able to repair the shelter had have it in place the next morning.

Best regards, Erasmo for all the farmers at HCF, Judy, Yoli, and Victor.
