Farm Happenings for June 26, 2019

Posted on June 21st, 2019 by Joanna Winkler

Everything is looking very lovely and lush around here this week! We are a little short on rain, but not enough to be really fretting quite yet. Plants like corn and tomatoes are growing big and strong, and we can't wait for their fruits (and ears) to get here! We're also enjoying early summer fruits like summer squash and cucumbers - an exciting taste and texture change from early summer greens and roots. Check out the Extras section to snag some basil to pair with your zucchini noodles this week. We reckon this will be the last week for a while that will be over 50% greens, which I'm sure will delight some of you. We're already thinking about how we can offer you the best quality and diversity of veggies this fall and next spring/summer. You're always welcome to let us know how things are going with your share - we love feedback! It's funny seeing your names pop up each week without having met you yet. On that note, we're working on putting together a meet and greet for CSA members later this summer/early this fall in Baltimore (unfortunately our farm is not currently set up for hosting events.) So stay tuned!

We planted some of our first fall crops this week - brussel sprouts and celeriac. As farmers we've always got our eyes on the months to come to ensure a tasty and bountiful future.

Baby plants headed for the field!

And baby birds we found in the field! They have a mama and seem to be doing just fine despite their unconventional nest location!

Thanks everyone, have a great week!
