Farm Happenings for July 20, 2021

Posted on July 18th, 2021 by Claudia Frey

Good morning everyone!

Three of us ran the Mt. Rainier 1/2 Marathon yesterday!  Evan, Emily, and myself.  We had a great time, and I had the privilege of running Emily's first 1/2 with her.

This week we collard greens are starting to be ready!  Peas have stopped flowering, so I am thinking we might be done with pea harvest.  I think we would have had one more harvest if it were not for the extreme heat that caused the third flowering to drop their petals.  Broccoli is also continuing to begin, so we are adding it to as many shares as we have heads each week.  Green beans are a few weeks out. The plants are getting big, but no flowers yet.

If you are finding your vegetable variety options to be limited, you may want to go into Harvie and widen your selections.  Kohlrabi is on right now, and it is delicious!  A brassica with a bulb for a stem, the bulb is peeled and eaten raw or roasted.  With it's mild brassica flavor, it is delicious as julianne cut in salads or roasted with root vegetables.    Right now we have green kohlrabi, but soon we will have purple kohlrabi, my favorite.-  Azure Star.

We hope you all have a great week. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to better serve you.  We are grateful for your support of Organic Regenerative Farming!
