Farm Happenings for June 8, 2021

Posted on June 5th, 2021 by Claudia Frey

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the 2021 Season of Frey Family Farm CSA!

We are so excited to have you as members; to bring you fresh, organic produce grown with purpose and attention just for you!  Each week you will receive your shares packaged in a paper grocery bag, with a plastic liner.  A few items will need to have additional packaging, but we are working to limit the use of plastic as much as possible.  We hope to return to re-using boxes, probably plastic corrugated, next year.  We have been advised to see through the Pandemic by using non-reusable packaging again this year.  If you ever need extra plastic bags, just let us know. and we can place some in your bag.

Each week you will get this email from me, letting you know your share has been set for the week.  Your share variety is based on what we have available for the week, and what you have set for your preferences.  We start the season with less variety, as we are early into good growing weather.  We will get to over 12 varieties for you to choose from each week!  If you see in a newsletter that there is a vegetable offered, but you don't see it in your share selection, check your preferences in your account.  Your weekly shares will fill with the items you indicated that you most want first, and the varieties you least want last.  Varieties you do not want will not be in your shares.

We will be offering some extras from neighboring business as well this year.  Mushroom Logs from The Mushroom Log Farmer in Ashford,  Handmade Soaps from Creekside Soaps in Morton, Honey from Four Cedars Apiary in Morton.   You can add these to your order when you review your selections for the week.  This week we have Creekside Soaps as extras.  The others will be added next week.

You will have from Saturday night when you receive the email, until Tuesday at 6:00 am to change anything you would like in your selection, and add any additional products you may want for the week.

Stephanie, one of our interns who was with us last year has just graduated from The Evergreen State College with a degree in Ethnobotany!  Please help us congratulate her!  To celebrate, we will have cake, lemonade and iced tea at our Farm Pick up this week.  If you would like to make the trip to the farm for this event, you can change your pick up location for this one week when you review your order.

We would also like to introduce Stephanie's new business!  She is going to be growing culinary and medicinal herbs on our farm, and will have herbs to offer as extras later in the season!  She will have information as to how people use the herbs as well.  We are all excited about her new business! Stephanie will be at the Farm pick up location until 4:00 to visit with you about her new adventure!  She will also have an insert in your shares this week to introduce her business.

We have been working hard to get vegetables out of starter trays and into the garden!  We had frost on May 29th, and we are hoping it is our last until late September!

If you have any questions at any time, please email me at this address, or text me at 253 677 9393.  We are here to help in any way we can.

Again, thank you for supporting local, regenerative, organic agriculture!

Here's to a great season!

Claudia, Jim, Emily, Madeline, Stephanie, and Evan
