Farm Happenings for October 7, 2020

Posted on October 4th, 2020 by Claudia Frey

Happy fall!  It is really beginning to feel like fall!  Pumpkins are ripening!  We have enough pie pumpkins for everyone to receive one, so we will start placing them in your shares over the next few weeks, as they ripen.  We also have some winter squash ripening, and they will also work into your shares.  Varieties of winter squash are sugar dumpling, acorn--white and green, spaghetti, winter frost, and baby blue hubbard.  Tomatillos are coming in after the large rains, so look for those as well.

With three weeks left in our season, we are still into many vegetables, courtesy of no additional frost.  Usually by now we are receiving nightly frosts.  Tomatoes are still ripening, but plants are showing the signs that it is October. Greens die back to allow the last of the fruit to ripen before they die for the year.

Our Pumpkin Patch opens October 17th.  Weekends until Halloween 10 am -6 pm.  Members receive 10% off pumpkins and store items.  Soaps, honey and other handcrafted items will be in our Farm Store for the Pumpkin Patch weekends.  Troy will be making his delicious apple cider doughnut holes again this year.  11am-5pm.  Warm apple cider will be served as well.

As always, thank you for supporting our farm, and local, organic agriculture.  Because of you, we can daily work to fulfill our mission of providing healthy food for our family and yours!  Have a wonderful week!
