Farm Happenings for June 17, 2020

Posted on June 12th, 2020 by Claudia Frey

This week will be Week 2 for some members, and week 1 for every other week members whose subscriptions start during week 2.   We are excited to farm for you this season; bringing you local, organic, healthy produce.

As our weather is remaining cool. we are starting out with less quantity and variety than we will have in coming weeks.  When produce volume and variety increases, we will add value beyond your paid amount to off-set our early weeks.  Strawberries are forming, and head lettuce will be ready in 1-2 weeks.

Please let us know if you have any procedural questions as you begin picking up your shares.  We work diligently to reduce waste and use of plastic, but this year farmers have been directed not to pack produce in boxes or bags that are sanitized and re-used.  With this request, we are using brown paper bags, with one plastic liner to hold most of the produce, saving individual plastic bags.  Some items such as mesclun mix needs individual bagging, and you will see those items individually bagged.  If you need additional individual bags for your shares, let us know and we can tuck some in your bag.

We are offering three add-on items this week from 2 local businesses. Our family use their products and love them!  Four Cedars Apiary in Morton is offering pint honey jars.  It is amber colored, produced on organic fields, and local!  Creekside Soaps, outside of Morton, is offering dish soap bars and bar soap.  Creekside Soap are natural soaps, handcrafted in small batches.  Bars weigh between 5.5 to 6.5 oz.  A pack of two dish soap bars total 7 oz.

Thank you for supporting local, organic agriculture, and we will see you next week!
