Farm Happenings for October 1, 2019

Posted on September 26th, 2019 by Sarah Rider

 In your share this week...

SPINACH has made it to the CSA harvest list earlier than ever. Usually we don't harvest any until later in the fall, but this year we have a large early stand of beautiful spinach. The varieties you'll see in your share are baby leaf and great for salads.

As for roots, there are plenty of radishes, turnips, beets, sweet potatoes and potatoes right now. Many of you have noticed that carrots have been gone for some time. We lost a couple of plantings over the season due to unexpected pest pressure which put a sizable gap in our carrot harvest. They are not done though, you'll see them on the list again before the season's out!

This picture is from our winter carrot beds! They will be inside of a plastic-covered tunnel to keep the tops of the roots from being damaged by freezing during the winter months.

You'll also see green and yellow beans on the delivery extras list this week. They're available for u-pick too!

Mark your calendars for Wild for Salmon at the farm!

Wild for Salmon will be here on Saturday, October 26th from 10 am to noon. Place an order online through the buying club for the best selection, or buy off the truck while they're here! **UPDATE: Ordering is now open!**
