Week 12
We have officially hit the half way point of our 2023 CSA season! This week we will be including watermelons in our CSA offerings. The earliest watermelons are coming out of the field nice and sweet, a great way to deal with the Summer heat. Over the next few weeks, we'll have a variety of types of watermelons, all have seeds, which we think have better flavor than the seedless types that are so common now. Our earliest watermelon variety is a red fleshed melon, but in the coming weeks we will be harvesting some yellow fleshed varieties as well as some mini oblong red fleshed varieties. This is one of the crew's favorite times of year, as we all sample each variety just to make sure we are picking them at their peak of sweetness.
Also, be careful over the next several weeks with melons in the boxes. Sometimes the weight of the melons causes the bottom of the boxes to give out!
