D&V Organics CSA

Week 9

The warm weather this week is sure to push a few of our heat loving crops further toward maturity.  Our cantaloupes are nearing ripeness, hopefully in another week or two we'll have those to put into shares.  After taking a walk through our peppers, it's looking like we'll have some shishito peppers coming along in another week and some of our super sweet Sun Gold cherry tomatoes also.  A few weeks ago, amidst all the dry weather, we discontinued irrigation on our garlic crop commence its drying process.  Unfortunately, the weather turned super rainy, which didn't bode well for all the drying garlic left in the field.  This past week we hauled in our garlic, finding many rotting bulbs due to the excesses of rain, but we have it in the greenhouse now, drying out and making it more shelf stable (much like you would find in the grocery store).  The size of our garlic looks great, this is probably the nicest looking crop of garlic we've had, with the exception of rotten bulbs we had to leave in the field.  Our garlic should be ready in a few weeks, after it is sufficiently dried, cleaned and trimmed.

Enjoy,

Derek and Crew
