D&V Organics 2022 CSA Week 5

Posted on June 11th, 2022 by Derek Zember

D&V Organics CSA

Week 5

This week we are continuing our field preparations to finish out most of our Summer plantings.  It's hard to believe that we are already starting to think of Fall and preparing fields and looking at our planting schedules to stay on track for an abundance of Fall produce.  As we move into the Summer months, our garlic is nearing maturity (this week's picture); we have shut off the irrigation to begin the drying process in the field and we will soon be harvesting the entire planting and moving it into the greenhouse for its final stage of drying for a more shelf stable product.  Garlic is a crop that requires the longest time in the field, growing from November through the Winter months and into the following season, when we harvest it in mid to late June.  Through that time period it requires a lot of care and attention, making it a slightly expensive crop for us to produce.  We are looking forward to bringing the crop in and wrapping up the final stages so that it is available for our CSA members.

Enjoy,

Derek and Crew
