D&V Organics CSA Week 19

D&V Organics CSA Week 19

We are just about to finish up some of the last lettuce plantings of the season this week!  Usually our last push for lettuce is a large one, where we will cover them up with a special fabric that raises the temperature, allowing them to grow in cooler conditions and provides a degree of protection from low temperatures that could otherwise damage the plants.  We have a little bit of time before we cover them, as the temperatures this coming week will be plenty warm.  After this week's lettuce, going out into the field will be a couple more large plantings of spinach, some more sweet, tender and super nutritious Asian greens (komatsuna and tatsoi) and kohlrabi.  We are anxiously awaiting the first radicchio, broccoli and cauliflower of the Fall, which we hope will be ready in the next few weeks and in time to get sweeter as the temperatures continue to cool down more.  Sooner, we expect to be harvesting choy sum, frisée, escarole along with a few other types of lettuce.  After a long summer without the greens, we are definitely excited to be getting our fill again.

Enjoy,

Derek & Vicky
