WEEK 4 CSA

It seems as though we've jumped from a late Spring right into some serious hot summer temperatures.  The past week has been physically tough on everyone here at the farm, getting used to the 90F days, but we're all in good spirits and getting a lot of work done.  Although we don't mind the break in running our irrigation constantly, the severe thunderstorms have taken a toll on some of our lettuce varieties, causing some tattered and bruised leaves, so we are finding that the quality we want isn't as easy to find.  Another benefit to the rain is that we are seeing some increased growth in some crops.  I always tell our employees that we are lucky to have some light and well drained sandy soils (which don't stay water-logged for long), but getting adequate water on our diverse line of crops is often a challenge.  We definitely notice a bump in plant growth after a serious "natural" rain event.

This week's harvests include:

  • Zucchini, various types
  • Rainbow Chard
  • Broccoli
  • Parsley
  • Fennel
  • Kohlrabi
  • Lettuces
  • Dandelion
  • Kales
  • Basil, Thai
  • Frisée
  • Escarole

Enjoy,

Derek & Vicky
