Farm Happenings for May 3, 2022

Posted on April 28th, 2022 by Lindsey Visser

Welcome to the summer CSA!  We are so excited that you have decided to join us this summer!

It has been a cold and wet spring.  We have been delayed getting into the field because of the rain and it has just been too cold for many of the plants.  We do have crops like broccoli, cauliflower, peas, radishes, onions, carrots, beets, lettuce & potatoes planted.  Alot of what we have planted is covered with frost cloth, but not a lot of growing has been happening.  We are about 20 days behind where we were last year.

There are so many things, like the weather, that we can't control.  Farmers are good about rolling with the punches and making the best of what they have to deal with.  Extra thankful for the greenhouses during springs like this.  Thanks to the greenhouses we are able to keep the cold sensitive crops safe for a bit longer.  Also, grow some greens so that we can enjoy some spring crops even when it is too cold for them outside.

Incase you missed it, here are a few reminders as we head into the first weeks of the summer CSA:

1. Check your start dates: This is VERY important for those of you doing the every other week share. The Harvie program will automatically assign your pick up dates. Some will start the first week of May and some of you will start the second week of May. Log into your Harvie account and find out when you are scheduled to start or email lindsey@crispcountryacres.com and I can check for you. We want to make sure that we have a box ready for you when you are expecting one.

2. Boxes must be picked up during the scheduled time. Boxes that are not picked up will be donated and we will not be able to replace it. You can reschedule boxes by logging into your harvie account.

3. Set your preferences. This is how we know what to put in your boxes each week. Login to your Harvie account and let the program know what produce you like or what produce you don't like. We want to make sure you get produce in your box that you will enjoy. You can login into your account at any time and make changes if you need to.

4. Watch your email. What we have planned for your box the following week will be emailed to you on Thursday. From this email you can customize your share or place your box on hold.

5. Please take a bag to transfer your produce into when you pick up. **Note this is different than last year!  (Bronson members do not need to.)

6. You can do so many things from your Harvie account! Here is a helpful guide showing you how to navigate your account.

7. Join the CSA facebook group!  I post important CSA info, pictures & recipes in the group.

Any questions please let me know.  See you soon!
