Farm Happenings for February 27, 2021

Posted on February 22nd, 2021 by Lindsey Visser

The greenhouse tomatoes are planted AND the cherry plants are showing the first blossoms! So exciting!

We have been getting the field transplants started. So far we have onions, leek, celery and peppers growing for the field.  The ground may be covered in snow and it is so cold outside, but it sure feels like spring seeing all of the plants growing!

For this week’s farmer feature we are talking to Jon.

Jon is married to Mary-Jo and has one son, Nathan. Mary-Jo also works on the farm and we will chat with her next week!
Jon attends the Muskegon Farmers Market. Pays the bills and works with the accountant to keep the farm financials in order. He power washes the equipment, keeping it clean and in good shape. He also works on field prep, clean up and does lots of cultivating.

I asked Jon what he liked to grow the best and he said that he enjoys growing the variety but likes to eat sweet corn the best.
